Prior to poetry, I worked within primary education for 13 years both in the classroom and school leadership.

As an educator, I understand how daunting the task of teaching poetry can be, the National Curriculum insists that children should be reading poetry in KS1, enjoying poetry in lower KS2 and speaking it by heart in upper KS2 - what does this look like in action? How do we instil a curiosity and a desire to engage with something as vast and abstract as poetry when it doesn’t take up as much space as other texts in the curriculum? Can we do this in a way that reaches all children regardless their ability levels or needs?

I have the answers to all of the above and can deliver this as part of a whole school CPD session. Or, if you would prefer your staff to observe poetry being taught with passion to an outstanding standard, I can also run classroom workshops for children from years 1 - 6.
